Northwest Park is a project that MWIA and the community at large has invested a great deal of time, effort, and money into over the past decade.
The park used to be fields for UMBC and were slated to be sold and developed into townhouses. We rallied together as a neighborhood and convinced the city and UMBC to enter into a 99 year lease giving us Northwest Park.
Since then, MWIA has worked on making it better. A large portion of our revenue from the slot machines is going into development at the park.
The playground construction at Northwest Park was a hard fought battle for MWIA. We have a brand new playground thanks to the efforts of many MWIA volunteers and our local politicians. At the ribbon cutting, much was said about what we can accomplish together. What else might the future hold with the MWIA on our collective side?
Here is a document from the earlier years as we tried to form a master plan for the park.
Since that plan, the playground has been installed and the baseball field is under construction. Other upgrades are in the works.
The Jones Falls Tail has been in the works for awhile and has caused some controversy over its times. Here are a few relevant documents. The trail will be going through the park.
The trail construction has begun.
Here are some maps and renderings of some of the major components for this phase of the project.
A water fountain will be put in the park as well. Some relevant renderings:
