Mount Washington is a beautiful historic neighborhood in Baltimore, MD located about a 15 minute drive north of the Downtown area. An ideal setting for families, our community offers tree-lined streets, wooded knolls with public gardens, and hills with impressive views of the surrounding areas.
Our neighborhood is diverse, eclectic and very stable. People from all walks of life and professions are represented --- professors, artists, writers, musicians, lawyers, doctors, and business people are counted among our residents. The diverse populace is matched only by the unique architecture of our homes, as 100-year old Victorian homes are located in close proximity to modern-style flats and comfortable cottages.
Within walking distance is Mount Washington Village, offering a variety of shops, boutiques, and restaurants. A light rail station offers commuters easy access to Downtown offices. Our K-8 school is considered one of the best public schools in Baltimore City. Families can spend the summer months lounging in the sun or under the shade trees of the Mount Washington Swimming Club. We have a number of open spaces and parks around the neighborhood, where children can play sports like soccer, softball, or lacrosse.
Ours is an old-fashioned neighborhood where you will be drawn to by the friendliness of our residents, the richness of our history, and the beauty of our surroundings.
For overnight guests, there's even lodging at Mount Washington Conference Center.
There are plenty of green spaces to explore. Right in our neighborhood, we have Mount Washington Arboretum and three parks:
Mount Washington Preservation Trust volunteers work to beautify many public spaces in Mount Washington and also handle conservation easements.
If you are new to our neighborhood, welcome! Here's a list of city and community services that you may find helpful:
A very important resource for the city and our neighborhood is 311. Call that number to report problems that the city should address. If it is an urgent matter, we are fortunate to have some very good people in the city who will escalate the 311 calls.
When you see an issue, call 311 and get the tracking number. Then you can report that to Betsy Gardner at BetsyL.Gardner@baltimorecity.gov. Again, this is for urgent issues, such as a missing manhole cover that someone could fall into or a tree blocking a road.
